8Small Talk is a free daily learning app for iPhone that delivers bite-sized knowledge to your phone every day. Each morning you receive a curated selection of content including an inspirational quote, a fascinating fact, a word of the day, a joke, a historical "On This Day" event, and a practical life tip. It is designed to make you a more interesting, well-rounded person — one notification at a time.
Small Talk is available exclusively on the Apple App Store. Simply search for "Small Talk - Daily Learning" or visit the App Store link on our website. The app is free to download and requires iOS 16.0 or later.
Yes, Small Talk is completely free to download and use. The free version includes six daily categories: Quote, Fact, Word, Joke, On This Day, and Top Tip. You can optionally upgrade to Small Talk EXTRA for additional premium categories.
Currently, Small Talk is only available for iPhone (iOS 16.0 or later) and Mac (macOS 13.0 with Apple M1 chip or later). There is no Android version at this time, but we are always evaluating the possibility of expanding to other platforms.
Small Talk requires iOS 16.0 or later. If you are running an older version of iOS, you will need to update your device software before installing the app.
Small Talk is designed for iPhone but can also run on Mac computers with an Apple M1 chip or later running macOS 13.0 or above. The app is not specifically optimised for iPad at this time.
The Small Talk app is approximately 39.3 MB, making it a lightweight download that won't take up significant storage on your device.
You can start using Small Talk immediately after downloading without creating an account. However, creating an account allows you to save your favourite content, sync across devices, and access additional features.

8Every day, free users receive six categories of content: an Inspirational Quote from notable figures throughout history, a Fun Fact covering fascinating knowledge across science, history, and culture, a Word of the Day to expand your vocabulary, a Joke to brighten your morning, an On This Day historical event, and a Top Tip with practical life advice.
New content is published daily in the early hours of the morning so it is ready for you when you wake up. You will receive a push notification informing you that your daily Small Talk has arrived, provided you have notifications enabled.
Yes, you can scroll back through previous days to revisit any content you may have missed. Your daily content history is stored within the app so you can always catch up on past entries.
Our editorial team curates quotes from a wide range of notable figures throughout history, including philosophers, scientists, authors, world leaders, and contemporary thinkers such as Albert Einstein, Oscar Wilde, the Dalai Lama, and many more. Every quote is carefully verified for accuracy and attribution.
Small Talk features thousands of educational and often surprising facts spanning science, history, geography, nature, culture, and more. Facts are drip-fed day by day and are designed to be conversation starters — perfect for first dates, networking events, or awkward meetings.
Each day you receive a new word complete with its definition, pronunciation, etymology, and an example sentence. The words range from elegant and unusual vocabulary to practical terms that can genuinely elevate your everyday communication.
Yes, Small Talk is rated 4+ on the App Store. All jokes are family-friendly and suitable for all ages. They tend to be witty, clever, and occasionally groan-worthy — in the best possible way.
The On This Day feature highlights key historical events, famous birthdays, scientific discoveries, and cultural milestones that occurred on the current date throughout history. It is a brilliant way to connect the present with the past.

Small Talk EXTRA
8Small Talk EXTRA is the premium upgrade that unlocks additional daily content categories beyond the free tier. With EXTRA, you receive up to 14 categories of content each day, transforming your daily learning experience.
Upgrading to EXTRA unlocks: Thought (philosophical mantras and shower thoughts), Recipe (delicious and easy-to-make meals and snacks), Riddle (brain teasers to challenge your thinking), Image (inspiring photos, statistics, and memes), Book recommendations, Exercise tips, and daily Affirmations.
Small Talk EXTRA is available in three subscription tiers: weekly at £1.99, monthly at £9.99, and annual at £39.99. The annual plan offers the best value at just over £3 per month.
Small Talk periodically offers free trial periods for new subscribers. Check the app for current promotions. You can also cancel your subscription at any time if you decide EXTRA is not for you.
You can upgrade directly within the app. Navigate to the settings or subscription section and choose your preferred plan. Payment is processed securely through the Apple App Store.
To cancel your subscription, go to your iPhone Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions > Small Talk and select Cancel Subscription. You will continue to have access to EXTRA features until the end of your current billing period.
No, any content you have saved will remain accessible even if you cancel your EXTRA subscription. However, you will no longer receive the premium daily categories.
Small Talk EXTRA is tied to your Apple ID. Apple's Family Sharing feature may allow shared access depending on the subscription type. Check your Apple Family Sharing settings for details.

Yes, Small Talk offers both Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets for iOS. These widgets display your daily content at a glance, providing constant inspiration without needing to open the app.
Long-press on your iPhone Home Screen, tap the + button in the top-left corner, search for "Small Talk," and choose your preferred widget size. You can place it anywhere on your Home Screen.
Yes, you can save any piece of content — quotes, facts, words, or anything else — to your favourites within the app. Saved items are accessible from the bookmarks section at any time.
Absolutely. Every piece of daily content can be shared directly from the app via Messages, WhatsApp, email, social media, or any other sharing method available on your iPhone.
The development team is working on a search feature for the saved content section. This will allow you to quickly find previously saved quotes, facts, and words.
Yes, you can manage your content categories through the app settings. Navigate to Settings > Categories to enable or disable specific content types according to your preferences.
Yes, Small Talk fully supports Dark Mode. You can also customise the app's appearance through Settings > Appearance, including changing the app icon colour for Dark Mode.

8Open Small Talk, go to Settings > Notifications. Here you can toggle daily notifications on or off, and customise the time and type of alerts you receive.
Navigate to Settings > Account within the app to update your email address, display name, or other account information.
Currently, Small Talk is available in English only. The app's content is curated with a British English tone, reflecting its UK heritage.
Go to Settings and tap "Invite a Friend." You can send a personalised invitation via Messages, email, or social media. Spreading the knowledge is always encouraged!
You can rate the app directly from Settings > "Rate us on App Store," or search for Small Talk in the App Store and leave a review. We genuinely appreciate every piece of feedback.

8First, check that notifications are enabled for Small Talk in your iPhone Settings > Notifications > Small Talk. Also ensure that Do Not Disturb or Focus modes are not silencing alerts during the notification window.
Try closing and reopening the app, or restart your iPhone. If the issue persists, ensure you are running the latest version of both iOS and Small Talk from the App Store. If problems continue, contact us at hello@getsmalltalk.com.
Remove the widget from your Home Screen and add it again. Ensure Small Talk is updated to the latest version and that Background App Refresh is enabled in your iPhone Settings.
Open the App Store, tap your profile icon, and scroll down to see pending updates. Tap "Update" next to Small Talk, or enable automatic updates in Settings > App Store.

Once your daily content has been delivered, you can read it offline. However, loading new content or accessing the website requires an active internet connection.
